“Take-it to” is the new command Kyla Lavender teaches the dogs at Aggie Guide Dogs and Service Dogs (AGS). The command’s purpose is to reduce the need for person-to-person contact by letting a service dog transport an object from one person to another. The initiative was made out of the goal to keep services available while reducing the chance of putting others at risk of viral transmission.
AGS has been on the A&M main campus in College Station since 1997. It is a student-run organization. Lavender, one of the AGS Dog Trainers said, “COVID-19 has really been hard on everyone, specifically some of our trainers and people with service dogs, due to the fact that they have had to adapt to a new lifestyle."
