A Story of a Dog in a War-Torn Land That Our Soldier Cannot Leave Behind

A long time ago, U. S. Army Staff Sergeant Nick Vallejo arrived in Afghanistan for deployment. He met “Bane”, a 3-year-old Labrador-Collie Mix whose ears and tail were partially cut off by the barbaric locals. Bane had been seeking Nick out every breakfast where they both shared bacon.

Just about six months ago, SSgt. Vallejo made a plea for taking Bane home with him. His letter reached the inbox of Tory Mettler, a volunteer for Lorain County Dog Kennel and Fido's Companion.

But before that, SSgt. Vallejo consulted with his wife Emily about taking Bane back home with him. Then they began raising $5,000 through an organization called Nowzad. Bane now lives with SSgt. Vallejo and his family in the U.S. where he will be given all the love and care he deserves.
