Dogs Teach You To Value Life

There are things that are abundant, but for a dog’s years of life, that's not the case. Dr. Stacey Schell’s dog Bella had her 10th birthday a few days ago, and because of that, she learns a valuable lesson. When we notice that our loved one’s time with us is slowly running out, only then do we realize how important this loved one is. We also start to dread the thought of the time when they leave us and how life would be without them.

That is the kind dread that we tend to bury but will always surface no matter what. Despite the emptiness that we feel when facing mortality, the gratitude that we express because of that is an important lesson to be learned. Schell said, “But even the deep and painful hurt that comes with this has its meaning, I’ve found. It’s led me to work harder to be aware of the subtle aspects of life with Bella.”
