Former Law-Enforcement Officer Changes Career to Serve His Community Better

To serve and protect isn’t just about responding to emergencies. This is what Sgt. Michellangelo “Mike” Brown thought when he left the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division to be the Animal Control Officer Supervisor for Lowndes County Animal Services.

Sgt. Brown, a former corporal, chose to protect animals and advocate for their rights. He said, “The fulfilling part of the job is keeping the community safe from aggressive domestic animals (and) investigating cruelty cases.”

What drives his passion for a career change is getting justice for abused animals. He said that he finds educating pet owners on proper pet-care while also offering resources as his newfound purpose.
