How Venezuelan Police Animals Aid Communities Aside From Crime-Fighting

Dogs have been used for centuries by law enforcement agencies to track and attack criminals. The same goes for horses as these majestic creatures have been ridden to chase after outlaws. But like their handlers, horses and dogs have also evolved to perform more rules in keeping order in a community than just working on the frontlines.

A good example of these animals doing side-roles are the horses Ivan and Hercules of the Mounted Police Branch at Long Circular Road, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. During Carnivals, these horses are deployed as means for crowd-control.

Atom and Nacho are Belgian Malinois from the same police branch. Yet, their story is different. Instead of crowd control, their side-roles are school visits for routine safety checks and public demonstrations for public entertainment.
