Meet the Newest Addition to the University of Virginia Police Department

Sgt. Ben Rexrode and his wife wanted to have a therapy dog as a way of helping others. Working at the university police department, Rexrode was able to gain approval from their UVa Interim Police Chief.

Finally, they got Cooper, a miniature American shepherd. Cooper underwent training in the ways of canine therapy. He received his therapy dog training at Positive Paws. His job is to help people relax in stressful situations, and it doesn’t matter where he does it - in the office or streets.

Sgt. Rexrode adds that Cooper is always down for a belly rub! UVa Interim Police Chief Timothy J. Longo appreciates the contribution that Sgt. Rexrode made in getting Cooper and ensuring his proper training and certification.
