The Transportation Department has imposed a new rule: Airlines are no longer required to carry emotional support animals in the cabin. Other passengers have one less reason for stress while flying. While that may be a good thing, it’s also unfair for those who really need an emotional support animal wherever they go.
And there’s only one reason for this: Selfish animal owners who have exploited the treatment the government has given for ESAs. Back then, ESAs flew for free just as Service Animals did and were allowed to stay with their owners in the passenger cabin. But a lot of people made illegitimate claims for their household pets. This resulted in pigs defecating in aisles and other passengers being bitten by an untrained dog.
