Project to Protect Police Dogs Launched

Matthew Ellis is the Staffordshire’s Police Commissioner and is passionate about protecting police animals. He supported the implementation of the 2019’s Finn’s Law, a law that aimed to ensure that criminals who harm service animals are punished accordingly.

Now a new project (The Dog Welfare Scheme) is introduced and designed that appropriate standards of animal health and welfare are ensured and maintained. “Police dogs aren’t just another piece of police kit, they feel pain, they have emotions and above all, they display incredible loyalty in the line of duty. It is absolutely right that there are checks in place to ensure the appropriate care standards and welfare of the dogs are maintained and they are being treated with the respect they deserve,” said Ellis.
